For Gareth Bradwick, there have been plenty of times where something didn’t click with his writing, and he couldn’t work out what it was.
Trust your gut instincts. Listen to that feeling! If you can’t figure it out straight away, wait. It will come to you when you’re cooking, half way through a walk, whatever it may be, at some point a trigger will help you untangle the issue you have with the piece that just makes it flow much better.
Gareth recalls the time he was writing the post about “The Blair Witch Project”. After it was finished, something felt off. He wasn’t happy with it.
I had a feeling it wouldn’t go down particularly well with my readers, It didn’t fit with what I was going for with my newsletter. So I left it for a few days. Then it clicked: the history of witches in film would be a much more interesting post.
Gareth knew he had to spend more time to gather the knowledge around that subject, and he spent a few more days researching and watching old movies.
I had to scrap my original post. What I came out with has turned out to be one of my more popular posts on Substack
