I took a writing class over the weekend called “Immigrants Write”. Inspired by a classmate, I want to share a writing prompt that can get you out of a rut if you are in one, or at the very least can get you to reflect on your life right now.
Here are the rules:
Start with “Life is easy but” and complete the sentence.
Repeat step 1 as many times as you want.
Share your thoughts, your feelings, your frustrations, your story, or whatever you want to share through these lines.
Be sad, funny, satirical, sarcastic, political, or reflect on whatever your mood you are in when you write these lines.
When you are done and ready to close it out, end with “but, Life is easy”
Here, I’ll give a shot first.
Life is easy but I am getting old and my joints hurt Life is easy but I am overweight and my pants don't fit Life is easy but I am worried about my health coz I don't exercise enough Life is easy but I am on zoom calls all day and my ears hurt Life is easy but I want to go into hibernation until spring comes Life is easy but I wish I never had to worry about money or bills due Life is easy but I just realized I have some hefty bills due Life is easy but AI is going to take away a lot of jobs Life is easy but I am not as popular as I want to be Life is easy but life is also random just like these lines above Life is easy but I can't keep on writing even if this is all I want to do Life is easy but now life is calling and I am going to stop but, Life is easy
Now you know more about me than you knew a minute ago. That is the power of these quick prompts.
Thanks for playing along. This is a new substack for writers to share, inspire and motivate. Please do subscribe for more.
A captivating glimpse into the complexities of daily life. Each line carries a unique blend of vulnerability, humour, and raw honesty. Your statement, "but, Life is easy," encapsulates the resilience and acceptance inherent in navigating life's ups and downs.
This is great!
Here is a student version
Life is easy but I still have to go to class on a rainy day when I’d rather curl up with a good book and hot cup of tea 😅
